Applications are open until July 20, 2025.

Course information

The YourAnastomosis summer course is a structured online program combining hands-on anastomosis practice with personalized feedback. Over five focused days, participants complete simulator-based tasks evaluated by morphological and CFD analysis, guided by expert interpretation from esteemed course directors.

Course directors

Prof. Peter Gloviczki, MD, PhD (former director of Gonda Vascular Center, Mayo Clinic Rochester, past president of SVS, SCVS);

Balazs Gasz, MD, PhD, FETCS (associate professor, University of Pecs)

Dates

Session I: July 31 – August 1, 2025

Session II: August 11-12, 2025

Session III: August 25, 2025

(The course spans an intensive week, delivered in 3 sessions to allow full performance debriefing on physical simulation samples.)

Location:
anywhere, train from your own home or lab

Format:
online, real-time training

Level:
ideal for residents, fellows, and junior vascular/cardiac surgeons

Includes:
YourAnastomosis kit, live sessions, morphological and CFD-based performance evaluation, and expert feedback

Day 1 – Introduction and basic end-to-side anastomosis

The course begins with an introduction to the simulator kit, platform, and evaluation methods. Participants review the fundamentals of anastomosis and perform their first 5 mm end-to-side exercises under live guidance.

Day 2 – Advanced EtS and patch techniques

Focus shifts to smaller (3 mm) EtS anastomoses at different angles, with discussion of morphological and CFD aspects. The day concludes with patch plasty training and sample submission for analysis.

Day 3 – EtE and guided repetition based on results

Participants receive feedback on their previous uploads and continue with 5 mm and 3 mm end-to-end techniques. Common errors and strengths are reviewed, and exercises are adjusted to individual performance.

Day 4 – Side-to-side and targeted practice

Side-to-side anastomosis is introduced and practiced, followed by repetition of key techniques based on each participant’s progress. A scientific background session and expert-led discussion support deeper understanding.

Day 5 – Final review and competition

The course ends with additional practice, expert feedback, and a friendly performance-based competition. Results are reviewed together, with closing discussion and personalized recommendations for further improvement.

  • Individualized feedback from experts based on both metrics and visual review
  • Peer comparison and group discussion
  • Structured, progressive training in all key anastomosis types
  • Objective, case-specific evaluation through morphology and CFD
  • Detailed expert review to identify strengths and improvement points

FAQs

No, the course is suitable for residents, early-career surgeons, or professionals returning to practice. Some experience with basic suturing is helpful, but not required. The course is structured to build competence step by step, with clear guidance and practice opportunities.

The course is held entirely online across multiple live sessions with expert instruction. You will receive the complete YourAnastomosis simulator kit before the course and take part in structured hands-on tasks during and between sessions. All exercises are based on real-life vascular procedures, and your results will be objectively analyzed and discussed with expert feedback.

Yes, absolutely. The course is built on collaboration among multiple high-level experts and is accredited.

The course director (Balazs Gasz) brings over 20 years of experience in surgical education, with a strong background in both postgraduate and undergraduate teaching, as well as research leadership in the science of learning.

The program features contributions from Professor Peter Gloviczki (Director of Gonda Vascular Center, Mayo Clinic), a recognized leader in surgical and vascular clinical education and evaluation.

Secondly, the entire program is designed around personalized learning under the evidenced methodology of proficiency-based learning, meaning that every part of the structure, content, and evaluation is tailored to support your development in the most effective way, under the guidance of top-level experts in the field.

The YourAnastomosis summer course is delivered in three blocks over five sessions, combining live online training, hands-on simulator work, and objective performance analysis using morphological and CFD evaluation. Participants submit physical samples between sessions to track progress and receive personalized feedback.

  • Days 1-2 (week 1): live online sessions with hands-on exercises
  • Shipping & analysis 1 (week 2-3): participants submit their first set of anastomoses for evaluation
  • Days 3-4 (week 4): continued training based on individual results
  • Shipping & analysis 2 (week 5): new samples sent for follow-up assessment
  • Final session (week 6): expert review, guided practice, friendly competition, and final instructions
  • Final shipping & analysis 3 (week 7): Participants send in their final work for completion evaluation and result summary

Shipping generally takes 5-7 days depending on location. Once received, sample analysis is completed within hours.

Yes. The YourAnastomosis course involves physical sample evaluation. After each practice phase, you send back your completed anastomoses. Once we receive them, your results are analyzed within hours. All shipping instructions are provided in your welcome pack.

Each submitted sample is objectively analyzed using morphology and CFD. Your results are visualized and discussed during live sessions with an expert surgeon. You will receive performance comparisons and personalized improvement suggestions after each submission.

The package contains all tools and materials needed for the course:

  • vascular kit (3-5 mm vessels for EtS, EtE, and StS techniques)
  • full instrument set (needle holder, forceps, scissors, scalpel handle and blades)
  • suture materials and accessories
  • printed and digital guidance materials
  • access to the YourAnastomosis platform for sample registration and analysis

You can keep the full kit and continue practicing after the course.

We recommend attending all sessions to get the full benefit of the live instruction and feedback. However, recordings and materials will be made available, and the core of the training is hands-on practice, which you can complete at your own pace.
